Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield discussed Alfie Evans’ case today on This Morning.
The presenters spoke to a doctor about the intricacies of the case, and Alfie’s condition.
An emotional Holly asked about the treatment that Alfie is receiving at Alder Hey hospital.
She asked: “He is still continuing to breathe without his life support – have his doctors got this wrong?”
The doctor replied: “I don’t have details on what exactly they’re providing and what they aren’t.
“I couldn’t possibly second guess the treatment he is having.”
The doctor also mentioned the professional doctors and nurses that are currently caring for Alfie.
He continued: “This will have taken an enormous personal toll on the professionals.
Alfie’s father Tom Evans appeared on the show after the doctor.
Phillip asked how Alfie is doing after being off of life support for 36 hours.
Tom said: “Alfie is still fighting. He’s not suffering. He’s not had any pain.
“I believe I am getting closer to bringing him home. We would be happy with that.
“But we would be happier to get him to Italy for his treatment.”
It was obvious that Tom was mostly angry about how his son has been treated, however.
He announced: “We were told he wouldn’t last five minutes and here we are 36 hours later.”
More to follow…
Alfie was born on 9th May 2016, and is currently in a “semi-vegetative state”.
He is currently being held at Alder Hey hospital in Liverpool.
Alfie’s life support was turned off at 9.17pm on Monday 23rd April.
Although initially predicted to lose his battle once off the life support, he has been surviving without machines ever since.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV.
