Live: Wade axed for Handscomb in must-win game

LOOKING to keep its series hopes alive, Australia has boldly axed Matthew Wade for Peter Handscomb in the third one-day international against India in Indore.

Far from a full-time keeper, Handscomb has worn the gloves for Australia previously, donning the gloves in two matches in New Zealand at the start of the year. Those two ODIs saw Handscomb score seven runs.

However, with Wade notching scores of 9 and 2 in the first two matches, the under-pressure 29-year-old has been dumped in a move Australia hopes will shore up the middle order.

Wade is not the only man to make way for Australia, with Hilton Cartwright dropped for Aaron Finch, who missed the first two matches with a calf complaint.

Alongside overcoming a worrying tendency to collapse — bemoaned by Steve Smith after Thursday’s defeat — the tourists will have to keep Virat Kohli and India’s spinners quiet.

Kohli rediscovered his best touch against Australia on Thursday, scoring a classy 92, while Indian spin twins Kuldeep Yadav (five wickets at 17.40) and Yuzvendra Chahal (five wickets at 12.80) have had a huge say on both of the first two ODIs.
