Karen (played by Lorraine Stanley) had started to think there was more than sibling love in the relationship between her two children after she overheard a conversation between them.
Her worries finally came to a head after she discovered that her daughter Bernadette (Clair Norris) was pregnant, and she continued to notice a strong bond between the pair.
Viewers were shocked at the “disgusting” plot, but tonight the soap revealed that the father of Bernadette’s baby was a boy at school.
Keanu (Danny Walters) was left devastated when his mother accused him of such a heinous act with his sister.
Karen blurted out the awful accusation when she began nervously: “I just want to talk. Listen being a mum, you notice things, and sometimes you need to ask things you really don’t want to ask.
“You haven’t got your sister pregnant, have you?”
While Keanu had initially thought his mum was asking him to move out, when she finally managed to say what had been on her mind the teenager was stunned.
“What kind of sick twisted mind…,” he said before Karen interrupted him: “This happens!”
“Yeah, between sickos!” he fired back. “Can you hear what you’re saying? She’s my sister!”
As the reality of her misunderstanding started to sink in, Karen started crying, devastated at her mistake.
The single mum tried to explain to her son that she needed to be sure it wasn’t true because she doesn’t know her children the same way anymore, but Keanu was too hurt, saying: “You’re meant to know me, you’re meant to know Bernie.”
Meanwhile, 15-year-old Bernie met up with the real father of her child in the allotments, a fellow pupil called Calum, and shared the big news with him.
“I need to tell you something, I wasn’t going to tell you but my mum’s been getting at me and, Calum, we’re having a baby,” she said, to which the boy burst into tears and asked her if she wanted to get married.
EastEnders continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on BBC One.
