Fish and chip shop believes their 'whale challenge' is biggest bite in the UK

CHIP shop owner John Haggerston boasts that he serves Britain’s largest plate of fish and chips – and only seven people have ever finished it.

The “whale challenge” involves eating a 32oz haddock, 15oz of chips, a roll and four side dishes.

A standard portion is a 6oz fish and 10oz of chips.

The fastest the £11.99 challenge has been completed is in five minutes 41 seconds by a customer who somehow also helped to finish his partner’s fish and chips too.

John, who owns Casey’s chip shop in Ossett, West Yorks, said: “We have run the challenge for over two years but only seven people have ever completed it. We have had people from America come over to try it.

“We get people coming in every week to try, about 10 a week. Everybody eggs each other on and there is always a great atmosphere in here.”

John, 37, added: “I have a 72oz haddock ready for anyone who wants to take on an even bigger challenge.”
