Love Actually: Will Patrick Dempsey end up with Laura Linney in sequel?

The 51-year-old actor is slated to be starring alongside Laura Linney in the short film, which comes 13 years after the original 2003 film.

He recently confirmed the news after he was pictured with a red nose and holding up iconic cue cards from the film.

As fans will remember, Laura’s character Sarah was unlucky in love after the object of her affections Karl (Rodrigo Santoro) struggled to cope with her family life.

Sarah was constantly getting calls from her brother Michael (Michael Fitzgerald), who appeared to be suffering from mental health issues and was in care.

However, it looks like in the Love Actually film she could finally get the happy ending she’s always wanted with Patrick’s character.

Patrick’s casting makes sense given that he was recently in the latest Bridget Jones film, which Love Actually’s writer and director Richard Curtis has previously been involved in.

In Bridget Jones’s Baby Patrick played the love interest to the hapless heroine and love rival to Mark Darcy (Colin Firth).

The Love Actually film is set to air on American Red Nose Day later this month and looks likely to features scenes already aired on this side of the Pond as well as special extras for th US version.

British fans of Love Actually were hit with a wave nostalgia back in March on BBC One after the cast and crew reunited to make a charity special for Comic Relief.

In the short 10-minute film, fans learnt that Hugh Grant’s Prime Minister David had tied the knot with his tea lady Natalie (Martine McCutcheon), while the hopelessly romantic Mark (Andrew Lincoln) had finally met the woman of his dreams in the form of supermodel Kate Moss.

Meanwhile, Jamie (Colin Firth) and his Portuguese wife Aurelia (Lúcia Moniz) were happily married with lots of children but still had work to do on their mutual language skills.

The film also featured a special speech from Hugh’s politician in which he said: “Obviously times for many people have got harder and people are nervous and fearful – and it’s not just in politics that things are tough.

“Usain Bolt has run his last Olympics, the Harry Potter films are finished, Piers Morgan’s still alive.

“But let’s look at the other side of the coin, Metallica’s album is an absolute cracker and on a deeper level… I’m optimistic, wherever you see tragedy you see bravery too. Wherever you see ordinary people in need, you see extraordinary ordinary people come to their air.”

American Red Nose Day will air in the US on May 25.
