Vauxhall renames its yellow to honor owner of vandalized car

When vandals scraped “MOVE” into the bright yellow paint of the Vauxhall Corsa owned by Peter Maddox, they thought they had had the last word. Or, perhaps, when they smashed the rear window and scratched every other panel on the car as well. All of this damage, worth almost $ 7,500 in total, was because the 84-year-old retired dentist happened to park his car next to his house in the Cotswolds and people thought the racey yellow car was an eyesore in the identical photos they took of the picturesque old village. Maddox eventually ended up buying a grey car so he would be left alone.

But, word of the incident spread and support poured in for Maddox. Not only was a yellow car rally organized in the village, but the manufacturer of his yellow Corsa also chimed in. As confirmed by Vauxhall spokesman Denis Chick and reported by ITV, Vauxhall has now renamed the bright yellow color as “Maddox Yellow”. It’s the ultimate “in your face” move from the carmaker, and one that really warms our heart.

As Chick says: “When we heard Peter’s story we were inspired at the way it captured the heart of the public. We wanted to show our support for Peter, which is why we’re renaming our yellow shade to ‘Maddox Yellow’.” Amusingly, the hue was formerly known as “Sunny Melon” or “James Blonde Yellow” – the paint code of which was 40Q, not 007.

The 100-vehicle yellow car convoy will drive through the village on Saturday, April 1st. Funds raised by the event will go into a charity chosen by Mr. Maddox.
