Jonathan Ashworth faced a grilling from Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan today as he gave Good Morning Britain an interview. He was initially there to discuss his plans for the NHS as the current Shadow Health Secretary but talk turned to Jeremy Corbyn.
Last night, the Labour leader took part in an interview with Andrew Neil, but it hit headlines as critics and viewers alike branded it a “disaster”.
Reid was keen to know if Ashworth thought the chat was as bad as everyone was making out, and started by asking about Corbyn’s lack of apology for alleged anti-Semitism within the Labour Party.
Ashworth started: “I feel a tremendous sorrow an I want to say sorry; the Labour Party has been too slow.
“In the past, Jeremy Corbyn has apologised. Look, let’s be clear, the Jewish community feels aggrieved – rightly so – and upset – rightly so.”

Morgan jumped in: “You’ve had no trouble saying you’re sorry, but your leader was asked four times.
“He was incapable of just saying, ‘I’m sorry’ what’s wrong with him?”
Ashworth continued to defend Corbyn, explaining how he has apologised in the past, but he couldn’t comment on the circumstances behind last night’s interview as he hadn’t seen it.
Reid then put Ashworth on the spot as she played him the exact clip they were referring to.
Morgan added: “Isn’t it pretty extraordinary that senior politicians can’t find the time to watch interviews with their own leader?”
Ashworth explained that he was in “seven different places” yesterday and the day before, saying he “doesn’t have the time”.
Reid insisted he watched it on the train on his phone as he will be answering questions all day about it.
Morgan laughed: “It’s called multi-tasking – why should we have to suffer it if you don’t have to?”
