ITV’s Lorraine hits back at McVey and reveals real reason for feud – ‘I’ve had enough’

Just before Good Morning Britain ended today’s show, ITV viewers saw Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid cross over to Lorraine Kelly to find out what was coming up on her show.

Piers couldn’t help but discuss yesterday’s drama when the Scottish host snubbed Esther McVey in an awkward exchange.

“Can we first of all talk about how you’re doing, because yesterday you ignited a firestorm in the Conservative Party Leadership, we want to play again what happened to create the firestorm. Here we go,” Piers stated.

Viewers were then shown two clips of Lorraine snubbing Esther on the show yesterday before it was revealed Esther had spoken out on the snub.

“Wow, now Esther McVey hit back at her own launch and she said this!” Piers remarked before a short clip of Esther was shown.

A journalist asked the politician: “What went on between you and Lorraine Kelly?”

Throwing her head back and laughing, Esther began: “We use to share a dressing room!

“She used to be on the programme afterwards and obviously she used to be partnered with Eamonn Holmes and then I was promoted to be partnered with Eamonn Holmes.

“She’s great, it was a great show and I can’t believe it, I think it’s 20 years ago I did that show. But never mind it was really good times and really good fun.”

Back in the studio, Piers said: “So, she’s basically inferring there you lost in a kind of love war over Eamonn?”

Lorraine was far from impressed as she hit back:“Well, who wouldn’t want to fight over Eamonn Holmes frankly?”

“Give us the truth Lorraine…” Piers begged as Lorraine interjected: “I’m baffled.”

But Piers continued: “…about your battle with Esther McVey.”

“No, there is no battle,” the chat show host clarified. “But I’m baffled by that because I had my own show since 1992, and I don’t think she joined until five years later?

“And as far as sharing dressing rooms go, it wasn’t really like that! It’s not palatial like it is now. I know Piers you’ve got your winnebago and your staff. But back then it was just a little room which everybody just shared that we went in and got ready in. It wasn’t a dressing room.”

Keen to approach the subject from another angle, Susanna probed: “Were you best friends, you and Esther back in the day?”

“I’ll be genuinely honest with you,” Lorraine responded. “I don’t remember her being, it was such a long time ago, my show was totally separate from that show so there was no interaction.”

It was then when Piers decided to ask Lorraine about her standing for the Conservative Party: “Are you a fan of her politics?”

“Exactly, now that’s exactly what it’s like,” Lorraine hit back passionately pointing her finger int he direction of the camera. “Yesterday, I’ll be honest with you Piers, I just got sick to the back teeth of the whole toxic political atmosphere.

“I strongly disagree with her on LGBT rights and I just thought to myself ‘I’ve had enough of this.’

“We’ve had two and a half years of going round in circles and not sorting Brexit out and now we have got a state in Britain where people are at each other’s throats and it has to stop’.”

Lorraine airs weekdays at 8:30am on ITV
