That is the verdict of beIN SPORTS pundit and former Scotland international Andy Gray has delivered on live TV.
Sane is yet to start for Manchester City this season despite having a summer off due to being left out of the Germany World Cup squad.
The winger was named on the bench for the opening three fixtures but was left out of the squad altogether for the visit of Newcastle tonight.
Gray’s sidekick Richard Keys says there have been reports of a lack of effort from Sane in training.
“Sane incidentally, nowhere near the squad today on the basis of a lack of effort it seems on the training ground this last week,” Keys said.
“We did say a week or so back we felt there was an issue there didn’t we?”
Gray thought Sane would have started the season in the City team, to allow some of their players returning from the World Cup a further rest.
But he says the fact he has not been in the team shows there must be an issue between him and Pep Guardiola.
Gray said: “He never took part in the World Cup and you would have thought after the season he had last year, he would have been in from day one to give others like Raheem Sterling, who did have a long World Cup, an opportunity to rest up.
“There has to be a problem with him and Guardiola, without a shadow of a doubt.
“You don’t leave a talent out that he’s got, fresh, fresh, desperate to play, if there’s not a problem.”
Sane was a shock omission from from the Germany World Cup squad but has been named in the party to face Peru and France next week.
And former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson is confused with the whole situation.
“That’s interesting,” Robinson said of San being left out of the Manchester City squad.
“Sane was left out of the Germany World Cup squad but he’s been called into the squad for this weekend’s fixtures.
“He’s back in the Germany squad but he’s not playing (for his club).”
