The common denominator is having a car that feels good to make sure you can enjoy those memories. If you’ve never considered yourself a car person but you want to upgrade your car, don’t worry! We’ve got five DIY car projects that anyone can do today.
1. Air Filter Replacement
A bad air filter can not only affect your car, but it can also affect your health. There are many gases in your car, such as carbon monoxide, that can negatively affect you and your health. This is especially detrimental in a setting like your car. Air filters such as this cabin filter include multiple layers to help protect you and regulate fresh air. It traps dust, gas, and even mold, while also using antibacterial microtechnology. It is important to have extra cabin air filter replacements in your home. This is a wonderful and easy DIY project that will make your car more safe and clean.
2. Car Emergency Kit
No matter how far you’re driving, having a car emergency kit is a very important project to make. It’s not difficult or time-consuming, you just need backup essentials and other first aid items in there just in case. Parents will more than likely want some backup wipes, diapers, and clothes. No matter who you are, you should make sure you have bandaids, wraps, Tylenol, and other first-aid kit essentials. You’ll never know if you’ll need it, but if you do then you will be glad that you made it!
3. Remove Dents
If you have dents in your car, you might be considering going and getting it fixed professionally. Don’t go just yet without trying this DIY quick fix for dents! All you need for this job is some tape, a suction cup (such as an unused plunger), a hammer, and a glass cleaner or water. Put tape slightly above the dent to protect it, put glass cleaner or water onto the surface of the suction cup, and then suction the dent! You can take a hammer and tap on the taped area to make sure there is no dent remaining. This DIY project can fix any size dent and save you loads of money!
4. Change your Own Oil
If you also want to save some money on oil changes, you should learn to do them yourself. This process isn’t too hard and can be done by anyone regardless of their experience of working with cars. The tools and materials you need are a wrench, oil filter wrench, oil drain pan, funnel, latex gloves, jack, jack stands, oil, oil filter, and replacement drain plug washer. First, you will want to raise your car with the jack to be able to see what you’re doing. Then, locate the drain plug and oil filter. Have your drain pan ready, and drain the oil. While doing this, replace your oil filter. Once the oil is out, tighten the drain plug (check if it needs a replacement drain plug washer). Lastly, add the new oil. You should start your car and let the oil run through for about 30 seconds.
5. Refinish Headlights
Headlights are sometimes not often thought about, but especially during deer season, it’s important for you to be able to see what is in front of you at night. UV damage, dirt, smog, and other road grime can build up and reduce the effectiveness of your headlights. It’s a little time-consuming, but if you find some spare time you will definitely see the difference. First, you rinse the headlights off with regular water. Find a rubbing compound you like, and rub it on. Wipe the lamp with a fresh microfiber towel, then look closely for missed spots. After you’re done with both sides, add some wax to add protection to make the cleanliness last a little longer
