1. Plan Ahead

No matter the size of your house, planning is an essential part of successful spring cleaning. Like you would do in any other project, list down the rooms and sections that need cleaning. Ensure that you do not leave anything out as small spaces such as bedroom wardrobes, garage, and the laundry room are often forgotten.

After listing all the areas that need cleaning, it is time to prepare for the exercise. Start by gathering necessary cleaning materials like cloth/rag, cleaning detergent, and mops. This will save you time as you will have everything at your disposal when you start cleaning.

2. Clear the Clutter

This is one of the most challenging and essential activities during spring cleaning. Many people have many things in the house that they no longer use but do not want to throw or give away. You can choose to use this four-step approach to help you de-clutter your home. Establish problem areas, evaluate why you still have the items, determine solutions, and implement them. Sort your possessions into four categories; junk, give away, put or store away.

If you decide to keep some of the belongings, store them in an organized manner, for example, using scaffold planks to arrange old books and magazines that you like to revisit once in a while. Once you identify the items to throw away or donate, take them out of the house immediately and throw them in the trash bin or a donation box.

3. Clean one Room at a Time

The most effective way to clean your house is to tackle one room at a time. It would be best if you had a checklist for each room to remind you of the sections that require more attention. Do not take too long on recently cleaned areas; instead, focus on the neglected areas during the winter season.

Apply clever cleaning techniques. If you live in a multi-level house, start cleaning the rooms on the upper floors coming downwards. When in a room, start by cleaning the ceiling heading downwards to avoid returning dirt on clean surfaces. To ensure that your work is thorough, allocate every space to a specific time frame. Please do not leave the room until it is thoroughly clean.

When shopping for cleaning products, buy as few products as possible. Many cleaning products will add to the clutter in your home, and you do not require a lot of cleaning supplies for spring cleaning. Microfiber cloths and an all-purpose cleaner can get the job done for significant surfaces in the home. Special cleaning items should be bought when required.

4. Clean with a HEPA Vacuum

An efficient HEPA vacuum removes hard-to-remove stains and dirt. Do yourself a favor and get one for your spring cleaning. The vacuums catch tiny dirt particles in the air, such as allergens, pet dander, and other household particles that trigger allergy symptoms. If you do not have or cannot afford a HEPA vacuum cleaner, go for a vacuum cleaner with attachments such as hoses, crevice tools, and dusting brushes that clean more than just the floor.

The additional tools enable you to clean tight spaces, pillows, cobwebs, and ceiling fans. Try and move your furniture for better vacuuming, and enjoy a clean and healthy home all spring.

Final Thoughts

Spring cleaning should be done by adults in the house and get every member of the household involved in the exercise. Include everyone by assigning age-appropriate tasks. Make the exercise fun by playing some music and having snack breaks to keep the young ones interested. After cleaning your house, develop new cleaning habits to make the exercise easier the following spring season. You can start by disposing of items once they are no longer helpful to avoid building up clutter; this way, you will have fewer things to throw away next time.
