Xbox One Backwards Compatibility: What’s the newest game Microsoft's added to the program?

Following the success of the launch of GTA IV, Microsoft have now launched their latest high-level Xbox One Backwards Compatibility game, Hitman: Absolution.

Xbox’s Larry Hryb made the announcement on Twitter, confirming that the Square Enix title would be made available later on February 14.

Hitman: Absolution is only the third Backwards Compatible game launched by Microsoft this month, quite a small haul compared to January’s list of titles.

“Hitman: Absolution follows the Original Assassin undertaking his most personal contract to date,” the official game description reads.

“Betrayed by the Agency and hunted by the police, Agent 47 finds himself pursuing redemption in a corrupt and twisted world.”

While not one of the most requested game by fans, Hitman: Absolution has still received over 30,000 votes for its inclusion.

Call of Duty Black Ops 2 remains the most-requested Xbox One Backwards Compatibility title by fans, with over 200k votes counted so far.

It’s also the game that Xbox’s Larry Hryb gets asked about on a daily basis, something that he has flagged as being somewhat overwhelming in the past.

And it appears that today has proven no different from others, although this time it’s Xbox chief Phil Spencer having to give an update on recent rumours that Black Ops 2 could arrive this week.

Categorising them as “not true,” Spencer said that his hands were tied when it came to announcing third-party games for the BC program.

“I can’t comment on later releases on 3P games but rumors on this right now aren’t true,” he commented.

“Sorry. I wish I had better news for you.”

Microsoft have confirmed in the past that they have to work with publishers on when a new game is released, with Activision in this case having the final say.

There has been no word from either party on whether Black Ops 2 will be released on Xbox One in the future, something that I’m sure would have some big benefits and drawbacks.

If there was ever going to be a remake project to follow Modern Warfare, BO2 would be it, the game is still played by diehard fans online to this day.
