Louis has joined the X Factor judging panel this year, just eight years after he found fame when he was teamed up with Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Niall Horan to form boyband One Direction.
Although the group came third in the competition, they went on to become one of the show’s biggest selling artists.
Tonight will see Simon offer up a touching gift to Louis in light of one very special anniversary.
The music mogul presents the 26-year-old with the original forms he filled out when he applied for the ITV singing competition in 2010.
“Did you know eight years ago today was the day that One Direction formed?” Simon, 58, asks Louis.
“Funnily enough I did know that I was in the band,” Louis jokingly retorts.
Producing the framed paper, Simon announces: “I’ve got your application sheet.”
Upon seeing his old picture, Louis remarks: ‘Look at that scarf lad!’
Simon then reveals: “These aren’t copy, these are the real ones.”
Joining Louis on the new X factor judging line-up includes husband and wife team Robbie Williams and Ayda Field.
Tonight’s auditions will also see Ayda, 39, take a cheeky swipe at her spouse.
Owen Matthews, a 17-year-old contestant, tells Robbie, 44, that he’s a big fan.
“He’s 17, and he knew who you were,” says Ayda in jest.
The pair also shared some exciting news recently as they announced they had welcomed a new baby girl to their family who had been carried by a surrogate.
Robbie and Ayda are already parents to Theodora Rose, five, and Charlton Valentine, three, and they declared a new bundle of joy had been added to their family yesterday.
Ayda shared in a post: “I spy with my little eye an extra little hand.
“So we have been keeping a very special secret! We are delighted to share with you that we have had a baby girl…”
The infant has been named Collette (Coco) Josephine Williams by the proud parents.
Ayda added: “Family comes in all forms, and this little lady, who is biologically ours, was carried by an incredible surrogate mother, to whom we will be eternally grateful.”
The X Factor continues tonight at 8.30pm on ITV.
