US President Donald Trump’s joke with French President Emmanuel Macron during a bilateral meeting in Brussels during the NATO summit even had journalists laughing.
When Macron finished giving a statement in French, Trump quickly responded to tell the French leader he enjoyed listening despite not actually having any idea what was being said.
“It sounded beautiful,” Trump joked. “I have no idea what he said, but it sounded great.”

Journalists at the meeting burst into laughter and Macron responded to explain to Trump that he had been reminiscing about the president’s visit to Paris a year earlier for Bastille Day celebrations.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Brussels, where Trump had earlier lashed out at European leaders for failing to spend the required 2 percent of GDP on NATO defense spending and told them to start paying up “immediately”.
