The Walking Dead season 9 news: Rick Grimes bombshell revealed in first look

The Walking Dead season nine is gearing up to be the most shocking yet.

It’s been reported that season nine will be Andrew Lincoln’s last on the show.

It has also been rumoured that Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) will bite the dust in episode five of season nine.

This will surely be a moment that will get the tears flowing.

That said, Rick still takes centre stage in The Walking Dead’s latest poster for season nine.

He’s also sporting a fresh new haircut and is beginning to turn into a silver fox.

To the right of the poster, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reeds) is holding his trusty crossbow.

Daryl is set to become the show’s new lead after Rick’s departure.

Michonne (Danai Gurira), Carol (Melissa McBride) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) are also in the poster.

It looks like Maggie’s baby bump has disappeared, which means that they’ll probably be a new kid on the block in The Walking Dead season nine.

New showrunner, Angela Kang, has confirmed during a panel appearance in New York that there will be a time jump when the show comes back to AMC this October.

“We’re playing with time in the season, so we get to jump forward in the story,” she said.

This would mean that at least six to nine months have passed since the end of season eight.

One point of note in this poster is the rather demolished looking Capitol building in Washington, DC.

There are also helicopters flying overhead.

Could this mean that Rick’s group of survivors are becoming even bigger and taking things countrywide?

In other The Walking Dead-related news, Jon Bernthal will be making a return to the show as Shane Walsh after he was spotted on-set.

It’s unsure how he’ll come back exactly.

He could be involved in a series of flashback sequences.

He could also come back as a walker.

The Walking Dead season nine will air later this year.
