The Walking Dead season 8 episode 1: Fans in uproar as THIS character set to be killed?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Walking Dead season 8, episode one.

The season’s premiere set the scene for “all-out-war” as Rick (played by Andrew Lincoln) and the Alexandrians prepared to battle Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his Saviours.

In the episode, Carol (Melissa McBride), Daryl (Norman Reedus), Morgan (Lennie James), and Tara (Alanna Masterson) set up explosives to lead a herd of walkers to the Sanctuary.

In the meantime, the main group which was led by Rick, Maggie, (Lauren Cohan) and Ezekiel (Khary Payton), drove right up the gates to distract Negan and the Saviours.

The others soon arrived and blew up the Sanctuary’s fencing which left a huge hole in the compound’s defences.

But as Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) drove through the massive gap, he stopped to save the former leader of the Hilltop, Gregory, (Xander Berkeley) as the walkers descended on to the premises.

However, Gabriel’s kind gesture didn’t go to plan as the pair got caught up in gunfire while the walkers roamed free.

The tense situation resulted in Gregory rushing back to the car alone without taking Gabriel back with him.

All by himself, Gabriel is then forced to take cover and find somewhere to hide and heads towards a mobile trailer, which is exactly where Negan is hiding out.

As Negan confronts one of the Alexandrians, will he kill him? Or will Negan push Gabriel into the arms of the walkers?

Those watching the premiere immediately flocked to Twitter to express their frustration at Gabriel whose life is now hanging in the balance due to his poor decision.

One person exclaimed: “What the heck Gabriel?! You’re going to die now for being stupid and trying to save a disgusting, cowardly, old butt. #TheWalkingDead.”

“Gabriel has been the king of making bad decisions since his first appearance on the show. #TheWalkingDead,” said another.

Another person wrote: “Gregory has me so mad. I’m praying Gabriel gets out alive, & kills Negan in the process #TheWalkingDead.”

The Walking Dead returns to AMC next Monday on FOX UK. Seasons one to seven are currently available to watch on NOW TV.
