The teen was bitten in the mid-season finale last year with fans devastated by the news that he will not survive.
But what about Carl’s (played by Chandler Riggs) friends?
As the Alexandrians continue their war against Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and the Saviours, should viewers be prepared for more fan-favourites to be killed off?
One character in particular who looks likely to be sticking around for much longer is Daryl Dixon.
Norman Reedus, who stars as the hero, dropped a major hint that his character could last until the show comes to and end.
“I could play Daryl Dixon forever,” he commented, suggesting he has no plans to quit anytime soon.
It comes after AMC boss Charlie Collier noted that the show won’t last forever and they talk about how it will come to a close “all the time”.
“We talk about it all the times,” he said at the CES 2018 Variety’s Entertainment Summit.
“How do you make sure it goes as long as it can while still being a responsible business?
“We talk about whenever it ends, that it’s Smithsonian-worthy… This is a fun ride for everyone involved.”
The teen can be seen lying on a stretcher, with the show’s head of social media, Johnny O’Dell, revealing: “All we can say is when he DOES die the show will not brush over it. Prepare for the worst.
“We can’t divulge exactly how Rick grieves, but we can confirm Carl’s death impacts him more than any death since Lori.”
“Unfortunately for Rick, Carl’s death comes at a horrible time,” he continued.
“He’s in the middle of a war, his home was just destroyed, and Negan and The Saviors have a chokehold on his allied communities.”
The Walking Dead will return to AMC on February 25 and will air on FOX UK the following day.
