Maggie Rhee (played by Lauren German) was last seen in The Walking Dead season nine and her exit was left open and she did not die as other characters have done in recent seasons.
She chose to leave the AMC show she had spent eight years on to join the ABC show Whiskey Cavalier and join the exodus of The Walking Dead cast.
However, her return might just have been sealed after the ABC was cancelled after just one season.
The show’s producer Warner Bros TV is hoping for other channels to pick up the show, but the loss of the show could free up Lauren and bring her back to The Walking Dead.
She took to Twitter to reflect on the news and suggested that this is it.
She tweeted: “Dear @WhiskeyCav Fans, I had so much fun with you guys on our #WhiskeyWednesday tweet parties… I truly appreciate the love and support you’ve given us.
“And to our amazing cast and crew, thank you for bringing this show to life! I love you guys so, so much. – LC”
Fans took the opportunity to beg the star to return to The Walking Dead.
One fan replied: “Now make your b****s return to #TWD season 10!!!!!”
Another added: “Once again, EPIC FAILURE @ABCNetwork for their decision making. I’m convinced that #ABC wouldn’t know a good show if it bit them. We love you Lauren, I hope you will return to #TWD & a network that listens to their fanbase.”
A third fan implored AMC to pay her the money she deserves to make her stay: “I’m sad for @LaurenCohan that her new show got cancelled, but the silver lining is I hope she can return to The Walking Dead. Maggie’s story wasn’t wrapped up. And I missed her. For the love of God, @AMC_TV pay her and pay her well to get her back. She deserves it.”
The news has shocked fans who were expecting an imminent season two, but ratings have been poor.
They last saw her midseason in season nine, but it was revealed that after a time jump she had just been helping Georgie in other communities.
She could return at any point and pick up her story where she left it.
Season 10 has started filming, however, so her return might not be scripted and unable to be written in for the forthcoming season.
But, with Michonne (Danai Gurira) leaving in season 10 and Rick’s (Andrew Lincoln) continued absence, there is a need for a leader to come and drive the show on.
Meanwhile, a clue from the comics has teased Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) could die.
Following the release of Issue 191 of Robert Kirkman’s comics, the page-version of Rick’s character was revealed to have been shot in the chest by Sebastian Milton, a name yet to make his way on to the AMC show.
This could be heartbreaking news for Carol (Melissa McBride) who is set to embark on a new romance with Daryl.
Daryl star Norman Reedus teased a first day set picture, which suggested they are to grow closer after Carol’s marriage to Ezekiel (Khary Payton) broke down.
