Dwight (played by Austin Amelio) is to return to fans’ screens, but in season five of the AMC spin-off Fear the Walking Dead.
However boss Scott Gimple may have revealed that Dwight will return for season 10 in a series of crossovers.
He joined the Dwight star and also Morgan star Lennie James to discuss the spin-off.
On the topic of stars crossing from the main show to the spin-off, Gimple revealed: “It’s a rare thing. It’s not gonna happen like this a lot.
“But I will say there are different sorts of crossovers we are going to do to tie the shows together, tie the universes together in certain ways that have to do with the greater happenings in the world.
“In telling stories of the past we might see characters interact, or just see those characters we’ve not seen in a while.”
Does that mean Dwight will return to The Walking Dead season 10 and provide a bridge between the main show and the spin-off?
Fans have also picked up on the potential for a Dwight crossover, with one Twitter user saying: “They have Dwight in Fear of the Walking Dead now, so I don’t see why they wouldn’t do something like that since they’re doing crossovers already.”
Regarding his arrival in Fear the Walking Dead, another added: “Can’t wait to see Dwight and Morgan. I hope Dwight somehow finds his wife. I’m just happy to see him back on The Walking Dead in some form.”
He left The Walking Dead in season eight when he was banished by Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and told never to return to Alexandria.
With so much uncertainty surrounding Alexandria, could he return to restore some order? Or create even more chaos?
The season four finale of Fear the Walking Dead saw the Fear team find a factory and it seems they now have a base.
It’s a dangerous world to wander alone but with a safe house, Dwight will most likely find a home, and his long-lost wife, Sherry (Christine Evangelista).
Show-runner Ian Goldberg recently revealed they will find some new people, but could Dwight be one of them?
He explained to Entertainment Weekly: “What we see at the end of the season here is that their mission is to go out into the world and help people.
“They will be using Al’s tapes as a guide to find those people.
“They’ll find some other people along the way, but they’ll also realise that, as Strand said, finding people won’t be easy.
“They are in short supply.”
Meanwhile, The Walking Dead season nine finale left Ezekiel (Khary Payton) a broken man as he lost his son, partner Carol (Melissa McBride) and faces the loss of the Kingdom.
A season 10 spoiler has suggested Ezekiel may be the next high-profile death and will not survive the next season.
Fans will have to wait for the season 10 trailer to drop to see if Dwight will in fact return.
