She has starred as Rachel Zane on legal drama Suits, and according to reports amassed a personal net worth of £5 million.
The actress also has a keen interest in charity work, and had various roles promoting worthy causes across the globe.
The former student of Northwestern University in Illinois studied theatre and international studies, and took on an internship at the US embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, age 20.
She worked as a freelance calligrapher to boot. However, before her relationship with Harry became serious Meghan also had a side career that may have made her large sums of money.
Meghan ran a successful blog, The Tig, for almost three years.
The lifestyle website aimed to offer inspirational advice to young women.
Meghan closed the website shortly after her relationship with Prince Harry became public, and she wrote a heartfelt final post to readers in April 2017.
The actress said: “After close to three beautiful years on this adventure with you, it’s time to say goodbye to The Tig.
“What began as a passion project (my little engine that could) evolved into an amazing community of inspiration, support, fun and frivolity.
“You’ve made my days brighter and filled this experience with so much joy. Keep finding those Tig moments of discovery, keep laughing and taking risks, and keep being ‘the change you wish to see in the world.’”
The title of the blog stood for ‘The Inspired Lifestyle’.
Amanda Dishaw, editorial director of Vancouver-based lifestyle fashion publisher Effervescence Media, told the BBC: “She was definitely making money off the affiliate marketing on the website: for example, she would have her friend Jessica Mulroney come on to talk about current fashion trends, and then the site would recommend certain pieces of clothing with links to where you could buy the items.”
It is not known whether Meghan used her high successful social media platforms to make money, however, she would have stood to make large sums if she had.
According to Business Insider, Instagram users with over 100,000 followers could charge over £350 per post.
Considering Meghan’s huge following of 3 million users on the social media platform and celebrity influence, it is likely she could have commanded far more.
Forbes calculated that users in the 3m to 5m follower bracket could command up to £35,000 per post.
Now Meghan Markle is turning her hand to royal life, she is reportedly doing this to make friends with Kate Middleton.
