After completing a cash builder round, it was time for contestant Deanne to face The Sinnerman star Paul Sinha, 49, with the Chaser offering her a higher and lower offer.
Contestants usually stick with the amount they’ve accumulated to make it back to for the Final Chase, but Deanne wasn’t feeling too confident and took minus £1,000 away from the jackpot prize.
Deanne’s fellow contestants didn’t seem too pleased with the decision and neither did viewers of the ITV quiz show at home, especially when the contestant went on to win a share of the cash prize in the Final Chase.
After Deanne took home £3,000 alongside two of her fellow team mates, despite accepting Paul’s lower offer, viewers took to Twitter to comment on the win.
One viewer posted: “Noooooooo!! So annoying when people pick the minus offer.”
Another remarked: “Deane didn’t deserve a penny. Nothing annoys me more than people who go low.”
Whilst a third stated: “When you take the minus and don’t answer a single question you should be taken outside and put on a bus with no money.”
A fourth wrote: “Omg Deanne u actually ok? Takes a minus offer then answers no questions??? Go home Deanne #thechase.”
Explaining herself before taking on Paul the first time, Deanne said: “I really didn’t want to do this. I’ve said all the time I didn’t want to do this.”
The contestant continued: “I’m here for the day and I want to join those two at the end. So, I’m going to take the -£1,000,” she continued, to which Bradley replied: “Do you know what, I don’t blame you.”
Paul chimed: “There’s no doubt that team will be stronger with you back and actually for the sake of £13,000 I don’t think that’s the worst decision I’ve ever seen.”
After Paul got six questions wrong, some viewers commended Deanne on taking home £3,000 and thought her earlier decision so she could make it back for the Final Chase was beneficial.
One viewer opined on the micro-blogging site: “Deanne answered a couple of questions and added a step, without her they wouldn’t have got there. #thechase #prayforDeanne.”
Another added: “tbh I know they won by two but the Sinnerman really could’ve squeezed an answer in last second, which would mean that Deanne was the extra step needed #TheChase.”
A third supporter wrote: “#TheChase frankly I think it is game over in the teams favour. @paulsinha not on great form in the final tonight.”
Earlier this week, another batch of contestants tried their luck at going home with some money by taking on The Dark Destroyer star, Shaun Wallace, 59, which led Bradley to issue the Chaser with a warning.
After the first contestant made it through, Shaun was eager to knock out the rest of the team and with one question between the second contestant and a place in the Final Chase, The Dark Destroyer wanted to put the spooks on the player.
Bradley didn’t mention the matter, which left Shaun to remark: “Hold on, one question shoot out,” with the host replying: “I didn’t realise it was such a big deal.”
Shaun said: “For him it will be. Because I’m going to knock him out,” to which Bradley replied: “Alright, settle down!”
