Despite this however, Roy still managed to amass a grand total of £5,000 during the builder.
The host teased: “Five grand isn’t bad, but we’d have much more if you hadn’t stopped for a conversation in the middle of it.”
Roy was joined by Phil Daniels, Strictly Come Dancing professional Janette Manrara and Emmerdale star Isabel Hodgins, and they all convinced him to go for the bigger sum, which he duly did, and it resulted in one of the most thrilling and entertaining chases viewers had seen in a while.
During the actual chase against Paul it seemed as though Roy guessed most of his answers, much to the Chaser’s annoyance. However, he had luck on his side.
There were even a few moments where Roy didn’t put down his answer until the very last second, which was too much for Bradley to handle.
It did seem as some points as if the actor and comedian needed to be reinstructed on how to put down his answer.
At the beginning of his chase, Roy almost gave his answer away as he started to think out loud, which Bradley quickly put an end to.
“Don’t tell him the answer,” said Bradley, who was dismayed by Roy’s actions.
Yet, all of Roy’s antics just added to the show’s entertainment factor, and he’s clearly a natural born showman.
It all culminated in mass celebrations when Roy managed to beat the chaser in a tense finish which saw the team raise a humungous £100,000 prize fund to be donated to their respective charities of choice.
Unfortunately, their celebrations were short-lived as the Paul thrashed them in the final chase, with 44 seconds to spare.
“That is called a hammering,” Bradley sighed, who seemed genuinely deflated by their poor final performance.
Perhaps they had celebrated Roy’s spectacular victory earlier a bit too hard, and they were never going to be able to top those scenes of pure elation.
Viewers really took to Roy and shared their love for him on social media.
One viewer wrote: “Roy on the chase is too precious.”
“Aww Roy Hudd is too cute… love him!” another said.
A third viewer wrote: “Well done Roy. You might be old, but you sure are bold.”
