Saturday Kitchen unveils 'breaking news' about format as fans react to 'daring' makeover

Guest host Glynn Purnell, 42, was joined in the studio by comedian Greg Davies, 49, and Chefs Theo Randall and Rosie Birkett to whip up a feast of culinary treats earlier today.

However, it was one segment in particular which fans were most intrigued by, when Glynn announced that the Omelette Challenge was back with a revamped format.

“We’ve decided to clear the board off,” he told competitors Theo and Rosie, before explaining: “A couple of weeks ago I had Michelle Roux come in and he made the perfect omelette in just over 40 seconds. It was perfectly cooked.”

Saturday Kitchen fans were then introduced to a brand new leaderboard, with a section shaped like a pan with world record holder Theo in the middle.

If chefs manage to succeed in making a cooked three-egg omelette, Glynn stated that they would make it onto the board and have their times put in the pan.

“We have the crew and the compost so no food they make will go to waste,” Glynn added. “The crew there are aways hungry, poised with spoons and forks at any given chance.”

Meanwhile, the official Saturday Kitchen Twitter account posted: “BREAKING NEWS: The omelette challenge board has been reset! With a special place for the world record holder.”

Fans took to Twitter to share their opinions on the new and improved feature, with one commenting: “Omg omelette challenge make over! Daring.”

“No one likes the omelette challenge. No one,” another insisted. “No one at all. Absolutlet no one thinks it’s good. Stop it.”

As Rosie and Theo launched into the frantic task, however, others were more preoccupied with the fundamental issues of trying to cook an omelette at top speed, as one criticised: “Their pans are always too hot, the very thing @MichelleRouxOBE pointed out last week.”

When the pair served up their dishes, Glynn deemed them both worthy of making into the pan on the scoreboard and edible for the Saturday Kitchen crew.

Rosie managed hers in 55 seconds, while Theo completed his in 54.

Saturday Kitchen continues next Saturday at 9.15am on BBC One.
