Sarah Ferguson Duchess of York posts touching tribute to late friend – who is he?

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, 58, has recently honoured her close friendship with a internal business man who sadly passed away last year.

The mother of Princess Beatrice, 30, and Princess Eugenie, 28, posted a touching tribute to David Tang.

Posting personal images to her Instagram account she wrote the caption: “Happy Birthday Tangito!! Miss you my bruvaaaaagh xx”

The post also featured a picture with the words: “Meeting you was like listening to a song for the first time and knowing it would be my favourite.”

The images were posted on what would have been David’s 64th birthday. So who was this man Sarah Duchess of York was so fond of?

David Tang was a businessman from Hong Kong. He sadly died due to liver cancer last year, in August at The Royal Marsden Hospital, Chelsea, London.

Sarah posted a touching tribute to the man on what would have been his 64th birthday.

David studied at King’s College London reading philosophy and law before going on to train as a solicitor.

However, her changed course and founded the China Club, a restaurant in Hong Kong, and the Shanghai Tang Stores, a luxury fashion house, among a number of other successful business ventures.

The philanthropist, who support democracy for Hong Kong, was married twice, first to Susanna Cheung and then to a woman named Lucy.

He had two children, a girl and a boy named Victoria and Edward.

Before his death the business man reportedly threw himself a farewell party after learning of his illness.

Sadly, before the shindig at the Dorchester Hotel in London could occur, David passed away.

Sarah and David were last pictured together in August 2012 at the Olympic Celebration Dinner hosted by model Naomi Campbell.

They have been friends since at least 2002, when they were pictured together at the royal jewellers Garrard relaunch party.

Sarah’s Instagram followers commented on the touching post.

One wrote “Exceptional man, who impacted many lives,” and another said “Sad that we lost him. RIP.”

“Yes sad to think he’s not with us! xx” am Instagram user wrote.

Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, also 58, were married for ten years. 

The Duchess appeared on The One Show and revealed a fun personal story about the Prince and Jack Brooksbank, her daughter’s fiancé.

Sarah is the second daughter of Major Ronald Ferguson and Susan Mary Wright.

Her parents divorced in 1974, with her mother going on to marry polo player Héctor Barrantes in 1975 and moving to Argentina. Sarah stayed in the UK with her father, who remarried in 1976 and went on to have three more children.


Sarah married Prince Andrew on 23 July 1986 at Westminster Abbey in London.

She wore an ivory-silk wedding gown designed by Lindka Cierarch which had a 17 foot train and 20 foot veil. As is tradition, Sarah wore a diamond tiara, and her wedding band was crafted from Welsh gold.

The couple spent their honeymoon abroad the real yacht Britannia off the coast of the Azores Islands.


Sarah and Andrew divorced in 1996 after separating in 1992.

However the couple remain on good terms, even living together in the Royal Lodge from 2008 until Sarah moved to a ski chalet in Switzerland they bought together in 2015.


Sarah has written children’s books for many years, her first being a series about Budgie The Helicopter in the early 90s.

She has also been the US spokeswoman for WeightWatchers after famously battling her weight over the years.

On top of commercial endeavours, the Duchess devotes plenty of time to charity, including Children in Crisis, which she founded in 1993.

Social media

Fergie, as she is known to friends, uses both Twitter and Instagram.

She has over 200,000 followers across the platforms, and shares many insights in to her life.

Most of the Royal Family are not on social media, but are represented by Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace, or Clarence House.

Sarah’s daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, are the exception, with both joining their mother on social media.
