Roger Federer, Grigor Dimitrov and Dominic Thiem to start a boy band – crazy claim

What all four players have in common is that they can pull of a one-handed backhand and they have been compared ahead of the Indian Masters.

During Thiem’s interview with Tennis Net he was asked if he would consider creating a musical group with his fellow professionals called the Backhand Boys.

But the Austrian laughed off the suggestion by claiming that he cannot sing.

Federer has previously taken part in some light-hearted vocal appearances but it is doubtful he would hang up his racket to pursue such a career.

“I hope no (offer) will come, it would be too embarassing,” Thiem told Tennis Net.

Thiem is through to the third round of the Indian Wells where he is hoping to upset the odds and get to the latter stages.

However, if he does he could come up against the likes of Federer, Marin Cilic or Novak Djokovic.

And the 24-year-old acknowledges that it will not be easy given the quality of potential opponents.

“Besides some big names, almost everybody is here [in Indian Wells], so it’s not going to be easy from the first round onwards,” he added.

“I have to be careful from the beginning.”
