REVEALED: The UK cities with the oldest population – does yours make the list?

The UK cities with the oldest population have been revealed in a new study by The Centre for Cities.

It has found that people who live in cities are becoming younger, with the average age being 38 years old.

In 1996, people living in cities who were over the age of 65 was at 51 per cent, which has since fallen to 46 per cent in 2016.

But where is the city with the oldest population in the UK?

According to the BBC, Blackpool came out on top of the list, with an average age of 43.2 years old.

This was closely followed by Worthing (43 years old), Bournemouth (42.8 year old) and Southend (42.2 years old).

All of the oldest cities are also found on the coast, with a high amount of those who have retired.

Cities which age the quickest are also destinations that have struggled economically which sees young people leave in search of career prospects, and towns which are relatively new as people who moved there begin to age.

In contrast, cities with the youngest ages were Slough (33.9 years old), Oxford (34.4 years old) and Luton (35.1 years old).

The youthful locals are due to a number of reasons including high birth rates and university students.

Thankfully, the most expensive city in the world isn’t in the UK, with Singapore being named the worst for 2018.

London doesn’t even make the top ten, with other destinations such as Paris, Zurich and Hong Kong takes the top spots.
