Prince Philip will AVOID royal wedding reception – and not entirely for health reasons

Prince Philip, 96, may be absent from most of the royal wedding on May 19 2018, a palace insider has revealed.

The husband of Queen Elizabeth, 92, is believed to be attending the wedding ceremony of Meghan Markle, 36, and Prince Harry, 33, at St. George’s Chapel.

However, he will “retire” after this point, the source told in an exclusive interview.

While it might be assumed this is for health reasons, after the Duke of Edinburgh’s hip operation last month, the real reason is said to be more complex.

It is said to be the Duke’s “very independent” personality that prevents him from attending the rest of the wedding.

“He’s getting better but we don’t know will he go for the whole day,” said the source.

“He’s still in a bad way and it takes a long time to recover. The thing with the Duke is he will not want to be seen in a wheelchair publicly.

“He’s a very independent person, he likes to do things himself.

He’d rather miss the wedding than be seen out in a wheelchair.”

The source explained the Duke would most probably attend the nuptials, but not the celebrations afterwards.

“He’ll go for the wedding itself at St. George’s Chapel but then he’ll retire after that.

This means the Duke of Edinburgh will most likely miss the wedding reception at St. George’s Hall, the source added.

Prince Philip was pictured on Friday this week for the time since he left King Edward VII hospital in London on April 13, following a hip operation.

He attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show, which is held in the private grounds of Windsor Castle.

However, he did not leave the Range Rover in which he was seated, choosing to remain in the driver’s seat and watch the show through binoculars.

It is believed Prince Philip is a fan of Meghan Markle, his future granddaughter in law.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who is grandfather to Meghan’s fiance Prince Harry, 33, is said to have “got on” well with the future royal.

The pair spent time together at Sandringham, where the royal family traditionally spend the Christmas period together. It was Meghan’s first Christmas with the royals.

But what was it that helped Meghan to ingratiate herself with the Queen’s consort and husband? It is said she used a clever tactic.

Rather than simply discussing the royal family she is marrying into, Meghan chose to quiz Prince Philip on his own personal background.

The tactic is said to have worked a treat, according to the source, and Prince Philip was also said to have warmed quickly to Meghan’s confident personality.

“The Duke of Edinburgh really got on with her,” the source revealed to
