Aidan Turner has been the lead in Poldark for four years.
The hunky hero has stripped off numerous times for the role, and has become something of a sex symbol as a result.
Aidan, 34, recently addressed a Radio Times article, which argued men and women “should both be able to confidently express desire for the other sex”.
He spoke on BBC News earlier today, speaking about the notion of a “double standard”.
Aidan said: “It seems like there is a double standard, yeah, it does seem that way.
“But I try not to get involved in [that debate].”
He went on to explain: “I’ve never felt objectified. I think sometimes other people want to feel that for you, which can be quite a strange thing.
“But personally I haven’t. You say objectify, but it sounds like [journalist, Mariella Frostrup] was sort of admiring that character of Ross Poldark or physically how he looks or whatever.”
Aidan added how he doesn’t have a problem seeing a shirtless Ross on the covers of newspapers, explaining how context is key.
“These photographs were stills from the show, so in context it makes sense.
“When you pull them out and stick a photograph on the front page of a national newspaper it becomes something very different.”
He continued: “Were not doing anything in our show that… I mean, Game of Thrones probably has far more nudity, or Vikings, or any of these shows, than we would have.
“so I never quite understood why our show was picked in particular, or why these images were concentrated on more so than any other shows, or other images of actors who’ve gone topless for any sex scenes…”
This comes after Eleanor Tomlinson revealed she wasn’t allowed to audition for her role of Demelza.
Eleanor won a legion of fans when she appeared on television screens as Ross Poldark’s (played by Aidan Turner) wife.
However, it has been revealed that the actress was originally going to play a very different role in the BBC drama.
The 26-year-old has noted that bosses actually wanted her to play Ross’ former lover Elizabeth (Heida Reed).
“Initially they had been down as Elizabeth,” Eleanor confessed to Red Magazine.
“They told me they couldn’t see me as Demelza at all.”
Poldark continues Sunday on BBC One at 9pm.
