Painterly Photographs of Beautiful Modern-Day Transylvania

The season being what it is, there’s a pretty good chance that the Romanian region of Transylvania is taking up a fair amount of real estate in your head these days. Whatever your preferred version of the Dracula story may be (in print or film), the portraiture of the good Count’s homeland is unwaveringly spooky and grim, and that’s what photographer Aurel Paduraru expected to find there. But the rolling landscapes and snapshots of local life that Paduraru captured are closer to Malick than Stoker. These are a few of our favorite images from the journey; you can see more of Paduraru’s work on Instagram and Facebook.
