Outlander season 4 spoilers: Jamie Fraser twist REVEALED as next major enemy unveiled?

Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) will finally have the opportunity to settle down and make a home in North Carolina when the STARZ time-travel fantasy picks back up in November.

Both stars have been vocal about the couple sharing a more settled life together in the show’s next offering, but it wouldn’t be Outlander without the drama.

Viewers already know Ed Speleers is joining the cast as the mysterious pirate and smuggler Stephen Bonnet, who is set to cause pain and heartache for the Fraser family, particularly when Brianna (Sophie Skelton) comes back through the stones.

Yet there are plenty more twists on the way as Scottish actor Sam has already teased his character will come face-to-face with someone from his past.

In a recent poll conducted by Express.co.uk, another possibility has come to light in the “return” of Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) following Sam’s surprising tease on Instagram.

The actor posted a story featuring a bottle of lager which read “Jack Black’s brewery”, and shared his mock-shock at his character’s most formidable enemy apparently still being alive.

It turns out only seven per cent of 2,000 voters believe Black Jack will actually return from the dead following his last appearance in the bloody Battle of Culloden which took place in season three’s premiere episode.

Yet a whopping 72 per cent of fans are convinced the character will grace screens once more via a “flashback or hallucination”.

The more interesting twist could actually see the character from Jamie’s past being a friend – someone he fought in the army with in France.

A sizeable 18 per cent of voters think Jamie will be stunned to discover the mystery person actually survived one of the battles and has found him in the unlikely location of the American colonies.

Conversely, a small three per cent of voters are of the belief Jamie’s late mother Ellen Fraser is actually still alive.

This would be a much bigger u-turn for the series, and not one featured in Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling novels.

The Spy Who Dumped Me star Sam recently hinted at a “massive arc” to come over the next three seasons.

Could this involve a returning character or something else completely unexpected?

Speaking to Elle.com, he shared: “We’re going to be in America. It’s the new world, we’re establishing a home — you get to see Jamie and Claire really be together and enjoy being a family, which Jamie’s always wanted, of course.

“He’s always wanted to have a large family and settle. So in America, this is sort of the first opportunity for, like, a day. And then it’s Outlander, so it all goes t**s up.”

Sam continued: “It’s a dangerous place. I think season four is really setting the scene for five and six, too, which we recently got commissioned for. It is a big arc – a big, long story.”

“So it really sets the picture for the next of the rest few seasons,” the star hinted.

Outlander season four returns November 4 on STARZ and Amazon Prime Video.
