Recent reports suggest that Nintendo Switch fans can look forward to exciting new updates being announced by the games company this week.

Rumours this week claim that Nintendo Switch game news is set to be shared via a new Nintendo Direct live stream event.

The company hosts these throughout the year, and they usually contain all the latest news regarding the Switch games lineup.

Gaming Intel reports that the new event is scheduled for this week, and will kick off on Thursday, April 11.

If a new Nintendo Direct event is held this week, it will be even harder to predict what will be included in it.

Pokemon Sword and Shield was only recently unveiled by the games giant and probably won’t need to be featured again until E3.

Several titles could be the focus, with games like Animal Crossing and Luigi’s Mansion 3 seeming like good bets.

But without the use of insider information, it will be hard to know what information Nintendo will be willing to share.

Recent leaks suggest that Persona 5, a new Metroid Prime Trilogy and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, could all be announced this year.

But until we hear something more official from Nintendo on the subject, it’ll be worth taking all these rumours with a big pinch of salt.

Something that fans will be looking for is an official send-off for Reggie Fils-Aime, who is set to retire later this month. The timing suggests this should be possible if a Direct is announced in the coming days.

He said at the time: “Nintendo owns a part of my heart forever. It’s a part that is filled with gratitude – for the incredibly talented people I’ve worked with, for the opportunity to represent such a wonderful brand, and most of all, to feel like a member of the world’s most positive and enduring gamer community.

“As I look forward to departing in both good health and good humour, this is not ‘game over’ for me, but instead ‘levelling up’ to more time with my wife, family and friends.”

Nintendo of America plays an important role in the distribution and localisation of popular franchises and also building connections with third-party developers. Nintendo is headquartered in Japan and is headed up by Shuntaro Furukawa, who took over the reins last year.

“Inside and outside our company, Reggie is known as an exceptional leader. We are grateful that he is leaving the business in good shape with strong momentum,” Furukawa commented at the time of the announcement.

“While we will miss him and we wish him the very best in his retirement, we are also pleased to have such an able successor ready to step into that role. Doug Bowser and the rest of the team will ensure a seamless transition and continued momentum for Nintendo.”

Fils-Aime’s last day has been confirmed as April 15.
