Neymar’s decision to swap La Liga for Ligue 1 surprised many with the talented forward penning a five-year deal.
But after just one full season with PSG it appears Neymar is already thinking about a return to his former club.
Real Madrid have long been linked with providing the 26-year-old with a route back to La Liga but Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim he is holding out for a return to the Nou Camp.
They say Neymar has become unmotivated at PSG due to the ease in which they won the title last season, finishing 13 points ahead of Monaco.
His quest for a Champions League trophy also ended in disappointment after they were dumped out at the round of 16 stage by eventual winners Real Madrid.
Mundo Deportivo say Neymar’s initial plan to make a household name for himself in Paris, having previously been in Lionel Messi’s shadow, has backfired with the emergence of Kylian Mbappe.
The 19-year-old helped fire France to World Cup glory in the summer and is already being backed to win the Ballon d’Or in the near future, even before Neymar does.
Neymar’s preference to return to Barcelona is also fuelled by him missing his former team-mates.
The Brazil international formed a close bond with the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez during his time at the club and he regularly keeps in touch, even paying visits to his former stomping ground when he can.
While Neymar enjoys living in Paris it is thought he misses the lifestyle he immersed himself in when living in Barcelona.
However, while Barca chiefs are reportedly listening to what Neymar has to say, there are still reservations over his return.
Neymar upset the club when he left and club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has previously revealed he was not happy with how the former Santos player handled his departure.
Barca are still hurting from his decision to turn his back on the club that provided him with his first taste of European football in 2013.
The constant links of a move to arch rivals Real will also be in the back of their minds when considering whether to pursue his signature.
Neymar is under contract with PSG until 2022.
The FIVE reasons Neymar wants Barcelona return
– Misses former pals
– Prefers the city of Barcelona over Paris
– Feels overshadowed by Kylian Mbappe
– Lack of motivation
– Desperate to challenge in the Champions League again
