It’s been six years since Smith and Jones returned for Men in Black 3.
And while a fourth outing is now shooting in the UK, the original stars are not returning.
Instead Men in Black 4 is a spin-off set at the London branch of the secretive organisation and follows Thor Ragnarok stars Hemsworth and Thompson’s agents.
Nevertheless one Men in Black 3 agent is returning for this sequel after all.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Emma Thompson, who played Agent O in the third outing is back for Men in Black 4.
Her character was chief of the New York branch, having replaced Rip Torn’s Agent Z.
Thompson’s return to the franchise makes sense as Agent O is British, so presumably she’s been transferred to London.
Also her character will act as a nice bridge between the original trilogy and the new spin-off reboot.
No doubt Sony’s Columbia Pictures will be hoping to follow Universal’s success with rebooting the Jurassic Park franchise with new characters in the same universe.
Just as Jeff Goldblum returned for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom this summer, perhaps a future Men in Black sequel could see a cameo from Smith and Jones?
Meanwhile other cast members for Men in Black 4 include Liam Neeson, Kumail Nanjiani and Rafe Spall.
Spotted shooting in London, the Aussie star was seen wearing the classic black suit and black neck tie of the Men in Black.
Complete with white shirt, polished shoes and black shades, the actor was looking particularly suave on the hot summer’s day.
Men in Black 4 is set for release in UK cinemas on June 14, 2019.
