US First Lady Melania Trump has taken to Twitter to thank all hospital staff involved in her highly-publicised kidney operation.
Spending the best part of this week in Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre in Washington DC, the 48-year-old former model praised the work of the medical unit and all involved.
The tweet, published from Melania’s personal Twitter page @FLOTUS read: “A sincere thank you to Walter Reed Medical Unit @WRBethesda & to all who have send good wishes & prayers! I am feeling great & look forward to getting back home @WhiteHouse soon.”
In response to her gracious tweet, many Twitter users expressed their well wishes for the President’s wife, with public accounts offering condolences and sending prayers.
Others were not as kind, fighting back at her husband’s controversial tenure. One Twitter user asked: “Did you meet any good doctors who could give your husband a brain transplant?”
Melania was admitted to hospital on Monday, undergoing an embolisation procedure to treat a “benign kidney condition.”
An embolisation procedure is a minimally invasive surgery, used to restrict blood flow to the affected area, consequently shrinking a tumour.
The procedure came just days after the US celebrated Mother’s Day, where the the mum-of-one was snubbed by her husband, President Donald Trump in a speech.
Donald’s speech was instead dedicated to his own late mother, reading: “My mother was a great person. Her name was Mary MacLeod.
“She came from Scotland and she met my father when she was very young. They were married for many, many years.
“I learned so much from my mother. She was just incredible. Warm, loving, really smart, could be tough if she had to be, but basically she was a really nice person.”
The 71-year-old and Melania have a 12 year old son together, Barron Trump.
Following the Mother’s Day snub by President Trump, much speculation has been had on her husband’s whereabouts during the procedure.
On the day of Melania’s hospitalisation, it was reported that the President remained at the White House.
Melania’s husband had two meetings on his private schedule for Monday, followed by lunch with Vice President Mike Pence.
Meetings included an 11am “intelligence meeting”, followed by lunch in his private dining room and concluding in a “briefing Schedule”.
He did though have time to Tweet, expressing his well wishes for Melania earlier this week. The tweet read: “Our great First Lady is doing really well. Will be leaving hospital in 2 or 3 days. Thank you for so much love and support!”
He is yet to post another tweet dedicated to his wife.
Melania is said to be doing well and on the road to a full recovery, expected to be back at the White House by the end of the week.
