The Good Morning Britain presenter was furious as she believed her co-star had been sent an official invite to the highly-anticipated royal wedding.
Kate was left gobsmacked as she examined the card, before insisting: “It can’t be real? It must be fake!”
“Did you not get one Kate?” Ben teased. “They spelt my name right so it must be real.”
As she continued to look at the invite, Kate commented: “It must be fake, it’s on cheap paper. Have you really been invited Ben Shephard?”
Later in the show, Ben admitted that he hadn’t really been invited to the wedding and the card was in fact, a fake.
“Sorry it’s not a real invite,” the 43-year-old confessed. “But the real ones are being sent out today.”
Outraged that she had fallen for Ben’s trick, Kate took the invite and scrawled her name on the invite.
Tasting a lemon and elderflower cake on the ITV show, which was baked by Great British Bake Off star Jane Beadle, he said the pair had “created scandal” with the choice of flavour.
“They are creating scandal and sensation by going their own way,” he insisted.
“It’s alright, it’s actually a very nice cake.
“But for me, you get married and you stick to tradition and you have a fruit cake.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
