MANCHESTER UNITED 1-0 BRIGHTON

HT: Solid if unspectacular from Manchester United, but the important thing is that Jose Mourinho’s side hold a slender one-goal advantage over Brighton at the break.

44: Romelu Lukaku has either scored or assisted in each of his last five appearances for Man Utd. Leading.

42: Close! March sends a dipping cross that Ulloa is inches away from connecting with. Good response from the visitors.

39: It’s a bit harsh on Brighton, who’ve played very well indeed. Can Manchester United kick-on now and grab a few more?

MANCHESTER UNITED 1-0 BRIGHTON – LUKAKU

37: It doesn’t matter how Manchester United are playing these days, Romelu Lukaku just keeps scoring!

Nemanja Matic sends an inch-perfect cross into the penalty area, where Lukaku is waiting to head past Tim Krul.

35: I can see Ashley Young going through a pretty vigorous warm up on the sidelines. Is he keeping warm, or is Jose Mourinho sending a message to Luke Shaw?

He’s been barking orders at him all evening.

34: Brighton fully in control now. They are getting in easily down that right flank with Shaw and Martial struggling. March sends a testing cross into the six-yard box, and United just scramble it away with Ulloa lurking.

33: Sergio Romero, take a bow. Lewis Dunk easily outfoxes Scott McTominay inside the penalty area and sees his thunderous header parried away.

32: Juan Mata with an injection of speed and quality. He exchanges a few passes with Anthony Martial before firing wide.

Woodwork! Chris Smalling pokes the corner goalwards and the ball smashes against the post via Krul’s chest.

30: Half-hour gone, and this could easily be the Sevilla match midweek match as far as Manchester United are concerned. Jose Mourinho’s side are still struggling.

28: Brighton just keep coming! The Seagulls look like they fancy this tonight. They win another corner which falls kindly for March, who sends it back to the south coast.

25: Close! Gross sees Schelotto in acres of space down the right but the full-back strays narrowly offside. Martial didn’t show much interest in tracking his run…

23: Jose Mourinho is shouting his head off in the technical area. He’s not best pleased with how his side is playing.

20: Manchester United building up some momentum now. Propper inexplicably concedes a corner when under no pressure whatsoever. Luckily for him, Duffy clears.

17: Brighton enjoying a bit of possession with Gross and March combining nicely. Schelotto gets a touch over-excited and dribbles one wide of the post.

The attacking full-back then drifts a cross over to Locadia, whose near-post header is blocked by Smalling.

14: The snow has subsided a little now. Jesse Lingard looks to confirm his love for this competition with a strike from distance, but it’s drifted miles wide.

11: That’s more like it from the hosts. Matic neatly plays it out to Valencia and Lukaku gets ahead of his marker to volley narrowly wide.

8: United have started to dominate possession but there’s no penetration of tempo. Quite easy for the Brighton defence in the opening stages.

5: Krul spills a fairly tame cross from Martial and Dunk is forced to heave it out of the earth’s stratosphere. Conditions could well play their part this evening.

3: Very enterprising start from the visitors this evening. The snow doesn’t appear to be slowing them down as Locadia looks for a cheeky snapshot.

Anthony Martial follows that up with a deflected effort up the other end, but that doesn’t trouble Krul.

1: And we’re underway folks. Team selections suggests Chris Hughton isn’t enormously fussed about the FA Cup, Premier League safety is his priority.

WEATHER UPDATE

19:43: Blimey, the weather is an absolute joke up here folks. It’s March!

The players have emerged from the tunnel to a blizzard. There’s snow on the pitch and it’s still coming down hard.

EVENING

19:40: Hello folks, sorry I’m late to the party but I’ve been a little busy covering Mohamed Salah’s 9767th goal of the season…

Yep, the Egyptian international netted four goals during Liverpool’s emphatic 5-0 Premier League win over Watford.

But that doesn’t concern us in FA Cup land…

We’re here at a freezing Old Trafford to see whether Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United can bounce back from their Champions League disappointment by joining Tottenham in the semi-finals.

I’d better stop blabbing because we’re underway any moment now.

MANCHESTER UNITED vs BRIGHTON

Jose Mourinho has no fresh faces at his disposal as Manchester United take on Brighton in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Paul Pogba returned from a knock to feature in the Champions League last-16 second leg defeat to Sevilla, as did forward Anthony Martial.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been training with his United team-mates this week but Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Daley Blind remain sidelined.

Brighton duo Gaetan Bong and Dale Stephens face late fitness tests.

Full-back Bong limped off with a thigh problem during last weekend’s loss at Everton, while midfielder Stephens was absent for that game due to a knock.

Albion manager Chris Hughton is expected to name a strong starting XI at Old Trafford having rotated his squad for previous rounds. He will definitely be without suspended winger Anthony Knockaert, who was sent off at Goodison Park, and long-term injury absentee Steve Sidwell (ankle).
