Where is Jessica Jones season 2 set?
Netflix’s Jessica Jones is hitting the streaming platform today (Thursday, March 8).
Fans of the superhero can watch the show from 8am in the UK, while those Stateside will be able to see it from midnight.
The season two release is to coincide with International Women’s Day this year.
Jessica Jones is set in New York City, specifically in the Hell’s Kitchen neighbourhood.
This is where the title character (played by Krysten Ritter) lives and works as as private investigator.
Hell’s Kitchen is a real-life neighbourhood, located on the west side of Midtown Manhattan.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the area is is also home to superheroes Daredevil, Iron Fist and Luke Cage and provides a tough and gritty backdrop to their respective series.
Following her high profile killing of Kilgrave (David Tennant) in season one, Jessica has to deal with her increased notoriety throughout the city in season two.
Where is Jessica Jones season 2 filmed?
Jessica Jones is filmed on location in various areas throughout New York City.
The city itself is almost its own character in the show and an extremely important part of its visual aesthetic.
“Our relationship with the city of New York has been astonishing,” Executive Producer Jeph Loeb said.
“Our ability to be able to find locations, work with the city, work with the people and the crew is just one of the best experiences we’ve ever had.”
Areas in Brooklyn and Queens that still look like old Hell’s Kitchen are used for filming and a number of recognisable subway stops often feature.
Jessica’s home and Alias Investigations office is located in a real building further up onto Upper West Side.
Luke Cage’s (Mike Colter) dive bar is actually located further downtown in a real life bar called the Horseshoe Bar in the East Village.
Production Designer Judy Rhee said that actually shooting in New York makes for more authentic viewing for the audience.
“I’ve done a lot of my jobs away where you have to turn Montreal into Luxembourg or Chicago into New York and that’s always more challenging,” she said.
“There are so many versions out there on screen as to what New York is and this is a very specific sliver of what New York is.”
How many episodes are in Jessica Jones season 2?
This season, like the first one, contains 13 hour-long episodes.
All episodes will drop on Netflix in one go on March 8.
