It’s been claimed that ITV producers have been discussing pulling the former footballer out of the series after viewers were left fuming about comments he made towards Iain.
“Producers have been holed up in meetings debating whether to reprimand Dennis or remove him altogether,” a source said.
“They have a duty of care to all contestants they take very seriously,” they added to The Mirror.
However, a representative for ITV denied the claims, saying: “The welfare of all our celebrities is of utmost importance and we’ve not witnessed nor had any complaints of bulling from any of them.”
On last night’s episode, Dennis, 50, and Iain, 44, exchanged heated words after they both put their name forward for the Tutankha-Doom trial.
Dennis stated: “My only problem – and I’ll be honest with you, Iain – is that you’ve said ‘get me out of here’ twice and what I don’t want to do is we have no dinner and so…”
Iain quickly interrupted, saying: “OK, but I also got 11 stars on one.”
“I get that but you’ve also said ‘get me out of here’ twice. Out of the three you’ve done you failed,” he added.
To which Iain replied: “No, I failed one of them, the other was a challenge.”
Later in the Bush Telegraph, Iain revealed: “I feel significantly more confident than I did the other day so I was quite happy to stand my ground a bit, it did feel a bit humiliating having my list of failures kind of recited back to me.”
But a defiant Dennis told the camera: “People need to eat and people are hungry. If he doesn’t like my opinion, he doesn’t like it, but I have to say what I feel.”
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight on ITV at 9pm.
