This includes a biting species of fly known as black flies. Black flies are tiny, black or grey coloured, and have short legs.

Black flies are insects which are part of the Simuliidae family of insects.

They can lead to health issues such as bites and irritation, but can also lead to diseases such as river blindness in extreme cases.

Thankfully, there is a quick and easy way to get rid of them for good.

The tip comes courtesy of HomeQuicks website which outlines a number of ways to get rid of flies.

The website advises to make a mixture in a bowl of bananas, milk, sugar and a pesticide, like Pest Expert, Rentokil or Cleenol.

The cocktail of sweet foods will attract the flies into the bowl, and the pesticide will kill them instantly.

How to get rid of black flies – tips

  • Keep the lid of your rubbish bin closed at all times to stop black flies feasting on the food inside.
  • Install screens on your windows to prevent flies entering into your home.
  • Clear and close drains around your home, as dirty and open drains will attract flies.

Another method to get rid of all types of flies including black flies is to use flytape.

Using fly tape strips can help you obliterate the pests in your home.

Fly tape, or fly ribbon, is a tape to kill the flies.

It is coated in a sticky, sweet substance which traps and poisons the insects.

The insect catching tape comes in a pack of one or more rolls.

You should tear off lengths of tape and hang it around the house.

Hanging the tape near where flies tend to be will help you to catch the most.

However, you should take care not to hang it about where you prepare or eat food.

This is because dead flies can fall off the tape and land in your food.
