Great British Bake Off: Noel Fielding seen looking downcast as pal reveals why he took job

On Thursday, Bake Off fans were shocked to learn that The Mighty Boosh creator would be joining the new line-up of the Channel 4 reboot with broadcaster Sandi Toksvig.

Fielding, 43, was pictured engrossed on the phone today wearing a patchwork coat and a multicoloured scarf.

The star teamed the vibrant look with his signature skinny jeans and ankle boots.

Fielding’s outing comes after his friend, Kasabian guitarist Serge Pizzorno, revealed the real reason why he decided to take on one of TV’s most coveted roles.

Speaking to Nick Grimshaw on Radio 1 yesterday, Pizzorno said that Fielding had spoken with him at length about the move into mainstream TV.

He quipped: “We figured, Salvador Dali did a chocolate advert, so that sort of makes it all right.”

Dali, a surrealist artist, starred in an advert for chocolate brand Lanvin in 1968 in order to make some additional cash.

Cult star Fielding has also professed himself to be a huge fan of the baking programme, which is created by Love Productions.

“GBBO is one of my favourite shows,” he said after his appointment was made public.

“I’ve always loved brightly-coloured cakes and Sandi Toksvig, so this is a dream come true for me.”
