Google Maps uncovers mystery symbols – are they the entry to secret Scientology base?

Google Maps is one of the most widely-used tools in the world for viewing life across all four corners of the globe.

Designed to help travellers navigate new areas, it has also inadvertently become a way to see people captured going about their daily lives.

And as well as this, the tool has captured many unexplained mysteries across the world.

From crop circles to natural phenomenon, Google shows it all.

Now another strange shape has caught the attention of the internet – and it is thought to be linked to the Church of Scientology.

The Trementina Base is located in New Mexico at coordinates 355 27’46.48″ N, -1045 57’07.96″ W on the site.

It is allegedly the spot where the writings and archives of L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of the movement, are preserved for eternity inside titanium capsules.

The two interlocking circles, which have diamond shapes in the middle, are thought to be a marker for the religion’s followers to find their way back from the farthest corner of the universe, where they believe they will go after humanity is destroyed by a nuclear disaster in the future.

They are thought to be a signal visible from far away for the building next to them, which is where Hubbard’s writings are said to be held.

The compound has only been opened to a non-scientology member once on record. Tim Gallagos, ex-police chief of the Las Vegas, New Mexico, Sheriff’s Department, was given a tour of the vault by church officials in the late 1990s.

Speaking to MailOnline in 2013 about his time on the site, he said: “They were transferring writings, speeches and videos. This vault is like a giant time capsule and they told me all the scriptures are being kept there.”

Describing the living quarters, he said: “The house next to the vault had a small room, kitchen and living area, but there was no technology – no phone, TV, internet. I wouldn’t want to live there.”

Many would wonder why he wanted to spend time in the isolated base – or indeed, why he would have been allowed in by Scientologists.

He explained: “I visited the base because we wanted to dispel the rumours that there were cameras in the trees and sharp shooters hiding everywhere, waiting to kill anyone who entered.

“I didn’t see that, but my visit was planned and so they wouldn’t show me any bad side if there was one.”

Google Maps often captures bizarre mysteries, and recently, the sight of a floating giant man at a pier in Australia has caused debate on the internet.

The figure is in the sea lapping up against the Southport pier in Queensland, Australia.

It’s impossible to look at the street view image without the strange sight leaping out at you.

But what is it? At first glance, you would be forgiven for thinking the figure is an actual living human.

However, on closer inspection, you can see the large figure is something else altogether.
