Gogglebox tribute: Fans in tears after show pays homage to Leon Bernicoff

Just a day after his death following a short illness, aged 83, the Christmas Eve special of the show featured a touching scene of Leon and his wife June.

Leon was seen raiding a tin of chocolates in the funny clip, as June warned him they were a gift for someone else.

Viewers instantly took to social media following the scene, as fans continued to pay tribute to Leon online.

It comes after June told her followers: “Thank you folks for all your wonderful messages.

“Leon would have loved reading them and hearing how much he was loved. Goodnight and God bless!”

The couple’s heartbreaking last tweet read: “Goodnight Folks! Christmas is almost here let’s all try and remember it’s the season of goodwill however fraught we get!”

Leon and June were one of the first couples to sign up to Gogglebox when it launched in 2013.

Channel 4 previously paid tribute to Leon, writing: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend and #Gogglebox legend Leon.

“We will all miss him so very dearly. Our thoughts are with June and family at his incredibly sad time.”

Fellow Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt described him as being “cheeky and adored”, writing: “So terribly sorry to hear the dreadful news about Leon!! Our hearts are with June and his family – what a dreadful loss to us all.

“He was so cheeky and adored – the show will never be the same without him #leonliveson huge #Chinchin in his honour.”

Sandi Bogle sent her condolences to Leon’s family, writing: “Would like to send my condolences to all Leon and June’s family, so sad to hear about his passing. All my love and blessings.”
