Game of Thrones season 7: First look at official poster hinting at EPIC battle

The first look at the penultimate season of the award-winning fantasy epic doesn’t give too much away just yet, but a great battle seems to be looming.

Although it doesn’t feature any big characters such as Jon Snow (played by Kit Harrington), Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) or sisters Sansa (Sophie Turner) and Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), the poster does appear to show fire and ice colliding.

With many leaks about the seventh season surfacing online, one concept hints at a number of characters coming together across Westeros.

The fire most likely represents Daenerys and her dragons who come in conflict with ice, the Night King and his undead army of White Walkers as they descend from Beyond the Wall.

But the image – that seems to show a mountainous region – appears to show the ice dominating with only a few flicker of flames.

The premiere date has still not been revealed but it is expected to air in the summer instead of its usual Spring slot due to them needing colder conditions to film in.

Many images have already been leaked online as fans wait longer for the anticipated season.

One suggests Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), who is now the Queen of King’s landing, will help Jon fight the White Walkers before betraying him at the last moment.

We also know Sansa Stark is going to take a dark turn in season seven as the actress revealed she now has a “taste for killing”.

The leaks also suggest that surviving Stark siblings Arya and Bran (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) will be reunited with Sansa at their home in Winterfell.

Unfortunately for fans, the upcoming season is rumoured to only feature seven episodes instead of the usual ten.

More information may be revealed in the coming days as showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss will appear with stars Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas on Sunday.

Game of Thrones is set to return later this year.
