Game of Thrones season eight will be the last in the A Song of Ice and Fire series and is due for release early next year on HBO.
So while fans of the fantasy epic are devastated to see it ending, they can at least look forward to a new George R R Martin spin-off series.
Though HBO have yet to officially announced the name of the first prequel series, Martin himself has referred to it as The Long Night himself on more than one occasion.
Now Poldark actor Josh Whitehouse has been cast in a key role.
Who is Josh Whitehouse?
Josh Whitehouse is an English actor who is best known for starring in BBC’s period drama Poldark.
The 28-year-old plays Hugh Armitage in the series, who had an affair with lead character Demelza Poldark (played by Eleanor Tomlinson) in season three.
His other roles include Modern Life is Rubbish, Mr Burberry and Northern Soul.
Other projects he is involved in which are currently in post-production include Valley Girl and The Happy Worker.
He will star opposite Naomi Watts in the Long Night.
Who will Josh Whitehouse play in the Long Night?
Deadline first reported that Whitehouse would be cast in the Game of Thrones spin-off this week.
However, no details about his character have been announced yet.
Details surrounding the series are top secret at present, so no characters or storylines have been revealed.
The Long Night is set 10,000 years before the events in Game of Thrones.
It will chart the much-fabled long night of Westeros where winter lasted a whole generation.
The period has been referred to several times in the series.
Its official longline is: “The series chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.
“And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend…
“It’s not the story we think we know.”
How Watts and Whitehouse fit into this remains to be seen.
