Black cats, ladders, evil eyes: all things people will be avoiding today thanks to superstition.
For those who believe in rumours and myth from the middle ages, black cats were believed to be evil and some even believe they have ties to witchcraft
But the truth of the matter is, black cats are just like any other kittens in town – and many believe they bring good luck to those who cross their paths.
In fact, in the UK around 70 per cent of cats waiting to be re-homed are either black or black and white.
While superstition is ridiculous to many, thousands still believe and it’s because of this black cats are the least likely to be adopted from animal shelters.
This Friday 13th, one animal charity isn’t taking this lying down.
Wood Green, The Animals Charity, has decided to live stream four black kittens on its Facebook page to spread good luck to those who cross their virtual path.
The black kittens seeking homes – currently living in north London – will appear on Angels Fancy Dress Facebook page between 11am and midday today. To watch the live steam find AngelsFancyDressPage.
The home-seeking feline stars of ‘Black Cat Cam’ are five-week-old kittens named Cogsworth, Philippe, Chip, and Maurice.
The adorable moggies were found with their mother, Belle, a young stray who found shelter in a garden shed to give birth.
All four were brought in to the Cat Rehoming Centre two weeks ago; Cogsworth and Philippe have completely black fur.
Their siblings, Chip and Maurice, though black and white, are included in the livestream in part as they will not want to miss out, but because superstition also surrounds white cats.
