Gaynor Faye has portrayed Megan Macey on Emmerdale since 2012 but after seven years the actress has decided to bow out of the role of the businesswoman.
Megan is about to become embroiled in a tense custody battle with ex-husband Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) after she is involved in a car accident with Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell).
The full details of the accident are not yet known but upcoming scenes will see Megan come clean and Jai decide she isn’t fit to take care of their daughter, Eliza.
Could the custody battle lead to her exit as Megan decides the only way to keep custody of Eliza?
Speaking about her decision to leave the long-running ITV soap, actress Gaynor told OK! magazine: “It’s a risk.
“I need to push myself out of my comfort zone.”
Gaynor has previously hinted Megan could end up in jail over the accident with Eric which would mean the door would be left open for a return.
She told Digital Spy: “If Megan goes to prison, I don’t think it’d be a great place for her.
“I think she’d definitely get into a lot of trouble in prison. But that could be a good thing – it’d be great to play.
“We have got a little prison set because so many people go to prison on this show!”
Megan first arrived as the half-sister of businessman Declan Macey (played by Jason Merrells) to help on a big project at Home Farm.
Megan went on to set up her own wedding planning business and married Jai, who she had Eliza with.
The couple split and Megan moved on with Frank Clayton (Michael Praed), who is currently concerned about her friendship with Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough).
Gaynor isn’t the only actress to reveal she would be leaving the soap as Jane Cox recently she would be stepping down from her role as Lisa Dingle.
The Dingle matriarch recently told her family she is dying leaving daughter Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) devastated.
Upcoming scenes on the soap will see Lisa remarry her partner Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell) but it won’t be without drama.
The bride will be delayed when the pigs at the farm escape and she has to help catch them before heading to the church.
Jane has opened up about why it was time for Lisa to die, telling Radio Times: “I just need to take stock and think about life in a different phase. I’m 66 now. I don’t feel it, but there’s a lot of things I want to explore. I want different adventures.
“I’m not ambitious, so with acting I’m so happy to have done everything I’ve done to date. I’ve been in the business for 48 years.”
Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV at 7pm.
