eBay: ‘Rare’ Mrs Tiggy-Winkle 50p coin listed for £2,250 on eBay – and YOU could have one

eBay is full of rare coins, with some listed for thousands of pounds.

Most are handed around between Britons in normal change, but keen coin sellers are able to identify which ones are actually worth a lot more than their face value.

One seller who has spotted a rare coin is eBay user “nastyagoul”.

The seller has listed a 50p coin on the online auction site, featuring a design of Beatrix Potter’s Mrs Tiggy-Winkle.

Hoping to make the big bucks, the seller has listed the coin for a whopping £2,250, 5500 times its intended 50p value.

Based in Cambridge and boasting 100 per cent positive feedback, nastyagoul has also made the coin available to offers.

The listing is simple and to the point, with the description just reading: “In very good condition.”

The coin was minted in 2016 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of British author, Beatrix Potter.

The coin features one of Beatrix Potter’s most popular characters, the hedgehog Mrs Tiggy-Winkle, the eponymous character from The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle.

The hedgehog washerwoman helps a little girl to clean her laundry.

The coin is part of a collection of 50p coins designed to celebrate the life of Beatrix Potter.

Other designs include Peter Rabbit, Flopsy Bunny, Mrs Tittlemouse and Jemima Puddleduck, all designed by Emma Noble.

While the seller is asking a very large sum of money for the coin, it turns out it is actually not as rare as they think.

With around 8,800,000 in circulation, it is quite likely many Britons will have one of these coins in their possession.

The coin was also listed as having a scarcity rating of one by Change Checker, the most common rating for coins.

In comparison to the Mrs Tiggy-Winkle coin, the Jemima Puddle-Duck coin only has a circulation of 2,100,000, the rarest of the collection.

Earlier this month the Peter Rabbit 50p coin was sold on eBay  for a whopping £1,000.

This coin was sold by user jbecerra-1089 in Ipswich.

They wrote of their item: “Rare 2016 BEATRIX POTTER PETER RABBIT 50p Circulated Coin Very COLLECTABLE”.

One bid was made on the coin, which appeared to be one of the circulated versions of the coin.
