After returning alone to Albert Square earlier this year, she left husband Alfie (Shane Richie) and their children behind in Spain.
The usually loud mouthed character has kept quite about her family and the reasons behind their stay in Spain whilst she reunited with her family in Walford.
But viewers finally saw her secret exposed when her cousin Hayley Slater (Katie Jarvis) spoke with Alfie about what had happened.
Hayley was seen asking Alfie how many skin grafts his son Ernie had had, with Alfie confirming it was three.
It was then revealed that Tommy had burned his younger brother Ernie with boiling water from the kettle, whilst supposedly under the watch of mother Kat.
Hayley then learned that Alfie felt he had no choice but to throw Kat out of the house, explaining that he feared for his son’s safety.
Explosive scenes saw Hayley scream at Alfie, condemning his choice: “You chucked her out of the house and threatened to take her to court, never let her see the boys again unless she left the country!”
But Alfie protested in his defence: “Well I was angry Hayley, my son was lying in hospital and I didn’t know if he was going to live or die!”
“When I saw him in there, and his skin…I had to protect my kids,” he added.
During Alfie and Hayley’s showdown, it was also confirmed that he was the father of her unborn baby.
Viewers recently saw Hayley discover she was pregnant.
Many fans predicted it was Alfie that was the father, after he make his shock return to the soap on Thursday.
In a conversation with Alfie, Hayley let slip that the pair had had a one night stand in Spain after Kat had left.
Kat’s secret reveal comes after Shakil Kazemi (Shaheen Jafargholi) sadly passed away in hospital.
He was left for dead following a stabbing by a local gang, and his best friend Keegan Baker (Zack Morris) also suffered a stab wound to the neck.
The pair were taking back a bike Keegan had stolen from a notorious gang when they were attacked.
It comes after EastEnders producers and writers were keen to portray realistic events happening in society in their soap, especially with the rise of knife crime in the UK.
Viewers will have to wait to find out how the story unfolds in coming weeks.
EastEnders returns Monday 28 May at 8pm on BBC One.
