EastEnders legend Big Mo stunned Stacy Slater (Lacey Turner) when she revealed that Kat (Jessie Wallace) had been killed despite the fact that she is actually alive and well.
In last night’s episode of the long-running BBC soap, the residents of Albert Square came together to raise money to pay for Kat’s funeral.
However, Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) later arrived and dropped the bombshell that she had just spoken to Kat, which left Stacey suspicious of Big Mo’s claims.
Speaking about why the EastEnders stalwart has lied about Kat’s welfare, soap star Laila let slip that there’s a dark reason behind her scam.
When asked if Big Mo has changed since she has returned to Walford, Laila commented: “Since I’ve been back I think Mo’s about the same but I think she’s got a little bit more devious. She always a crafty person.”
The 72-year-old went on to tease a huge Kat twist as she revealed she knew why Big Mo was lying about Kat.
“I do know,” she said hesitantly. “I don’t know whether I’m supposed to tell you that.
“But it’s not very nice, let’s put it that way.”
Laila added that Big Mo “likes earning a few quid” and would “go quite a long way to get a few bob”, hinting that she’s in desperate need of money.
It comes as fans have been given their first glimpse of Kat’s return to Albert Square in first-look pictures released by the BBC.
She can be seen storming through the market in a leopard-print coat and sporting a slick of bright red lipstick.
Kat is later pictured strolling around Walford with Stacey as the pair deal with the fallout from Big Mo’s lie about her death.
Speaking about her comeback, actress Jessie teased that there would a lot of drama.
“She’s turns up at her own wake and she’s got all the debris to clear up, all the damage a person has caused by saying Kat’s dead,” she told Soaplife.
“She just sees what’s going on, then she goes to deal with it.”
EastEnders continues tomorrow on BBC One at 7.30pm.
