Countryfile weather forecast: Startling disruptive snow warning issued by the Met Office

The 36-year-old  meteorologist warned that the freezing weather would cause heavy disruption and likely see several schools shut across the country.

Sarah also forecasted that snow could fall up to 20 centimetres in depth.

Beginning her weather forecast, Sarah said: “Monday will be a bitterly cold day particularly as the cloud rolls in and we’ll see increasing amounts of snow showers too.

“So Monday night into Tuesday then will continue to see this feed of easily wind bringing more snow showers.”

Sarah then explained that the Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for Tuesday.

She continued: “In fact the Met Office have issued an amber weather warning for potentially disruptive snowfall through the day on Tuesday. Particularly for eastern areas. So Yorkshire, Lincolnshire… down towards Essex and Kent too.

“But also some of those snow showers will also drift further west and again it will feel bitterly cold too.

“So there could be travel disruption on Tuesday. Perhaps some school closures too. So certainly keep tuned to your latest forecasts through the next couple of days.”

By midweek, viewers were told to expect further snow showers, with temperatures remaining below freezing.

Sarah explained: “By the time we get to Wednesday, we’ve still got this cold, brisk, easterly wind bringing further snow showers. Particularly for eastern parts of the country once again.

“Up towards the north east of England, eastern Scotland too. But some of those snow showers drifting further west. And for many of us, temperatures will remain below freezing all day.

“In terms of these accumulations of snow, it’s going to vary across the country, but we could well see 20 centimetres or more, particularly over the higher ground for the Pennines up towards eastern Scotland. Further west too could be between around two to 10 centimetres.”

Viewers were advised to wrap up warm as the end of the week would still see frost along with heavier and more persistent snow arriving.

Sarah said: “So looking towards the end of the week, well for Thursday a bitterly cold start to the day. Some lying snow already. Some widespread frost too. But through the day on Thursday it looks like we could see heavier and more persistent snow arriving.

“Now that’s down to the fact that we’ve got an area of low pressure to the south. As that moves northwards it bumps into that cold air in place. So during the day on Thursday we could well see further snow showers across northern parts of the country. Towards the south, heavy persistent snow.

“Could be another 10 to perhaps 15 centimetres of snow through the day on Thursday and into Friday as well. So the snow initially towards the south. Another very cold day, but as the milder air works in from the south, perhaps some of it could turn back to rain for a time.”

She added: “But for much of the country we’ve got some heavy snowfall moving northwards through the day on Friday could be quite disruptive as we look towards the end of the week.”

continues next Sunday on at 6.30pm.
